EXPECTATIONS

The inspiration behind this piece centres around that feeling that we get when the things we have been longing for don't live up to the expectations we had created in our heads. Sometimes it's about physical things and sometimes it's about abstract things.
The hand symbolise me, you, us humans. The petals are the things we strive for. The top petals are the brightest ones; these are the ones that we haven't acquired yet. In our minds, these top things still have great value.
The petals past the fingers have lost their shine and intrigue because, after a while, we unconsciously learn to take them for granted.
From two of the fingers, there are ramifications that grow outwards. This shows how, with our mental growth, we come to desire more and more over time. We want more things in many different aspects of our lives. Hence why the ramifications (which are still us) are going in two different directions.
This whole process doesn't manifest itself in a quick fashion; time is key for the decay of the petals. The sun and the tiny stars within it satisfy just this; it's symbolism for time.
Moral of the story: enjoy the process more than the end reward.
